02:56 pm Today, as I was doing my data entry at work, I listened to an hour of Mitch Hedberg comedy on my ipod. For those of you who are deprived and don't know who he is, he was a comedian who died 2 years ago. I saw him live my freshman year of college. He is freakin hysterical. The jokes actually weren't that amazing this time...but the way he says them...amazing. My favorite: "Wouldn't it be cool if you ate a good food and a bad food at the same time, and the good food cancelled out the bad food? Like, you eat a carrot and a dorito and when they get to your stomach the dorito says "It's cool- he's with me."
Needless to say, I spent the morning laughing. My coworkers probably thought I was drunk, because data entry is NOT that funny. Current Music: PJ Harvey

11:17 am One of the worst thing about the holidays is when the bring memories of events and people you just don't want to think about. Worst still when they are good ones and they make you miss a lot and really upset that you will never have them again.

03:51 am I swear only I am up at almost 4 am watching Gilmore Girls season five and CRYING!

11:29 pm The Susan Egan concert was wonderful- I have no words. The songs were beautiful, Sus was hilarious, and chatting with her after was divine. She sang "Home" for me! She told me that she put it in just for me! And she sang parts of it *to* me! She is so awesome!

03:34 am I am not a Renthead In fact, I admit fully that the first time I EVER saw Rent was a week ago. And I didn't know ANY of the songs except "Seasons of Love" until like this week. But sitting in the Zigfield theatre on opening night of the Rent movie with my closest NY friends all around me, listening to people sobbing at all the moving parts, laughing at all the happy parts and cheering at anything and everything that appeared was among the most amazing experiences I have ever had here. And it didn't hurt that Anthony Rapp was there and Loretta and I took a pic with him (hey, if you are going to stay up until 4am seeing a opening night show just to get up for an 11am anthro class, you may as well have a picture!) I don't think I have ever cried so much at a movie...or felt so moved by a musical Or been so incredibly sad to leave my City... One more month, guys...no day but today!

11:53 pm I took a TWO hour nap today. Just TWO! That is not long enough to make me WIDE AWAKE at midnight when all I want to do is sleep!!! I need to get on a real sleep schedule...like NOW!
In other news, purchasing all four Gilmore Girls seasons in a set from Amazon was probably the most worthy and useful investment that I have ever made in my life. And the rebate doesn't hurt either. :-) If you want to join/create a GG movie nite, reply (Kaelan, I am afraid you are stuck with them no matter what ;-))

01:01 pm I thought I had escaped the dreaded Emmy Story, but alas, it has come back to haunt me. I hate rewrites of papers that I am just as clueless about as I was when I first wrote it. It is like if I ultimately fail it, it will be a double F. But in all fairness, I didn't watch all the Emmy's, I never watch the Emmy's, I never watch the shows that were on the Emmy's- heck, I don't watch T.V.!!! How can I possibly review this???
AND I have to pack to go home tomorrow! YAAAAAY for a trip home and then to IUP :-) But first I have to pack a ton of crap...
WHY aren't any of the 58094453543 starbucks that are around where I live open 24 hours? I need serious caffiene...I haven't touched soda all week, but today may be the day!!!

11:18 pm - My Response First of all, I very much respect and admire the gracious nature that Kristin is displaying through this- it can't possibly be easy for her. I honestly do not know what the WOF's stated values are or what the specific circumstances regarding this issue are, so I don't know if they did the right or wrong thing for their conference. I personally believe that with all of the wonderful characteristics that Kristin has to offer, even if she didn't coincide with them on this issue, she would have been a great inspirational speaker who would have affected many.
This response is not an opinion of what I believe regarding tolerance homosexuality, the Women of Faith Conference, and what exactly Kristin Chenoweth believes and why. This is a response to Jaime's question: "You religious-types, tell me why I should want to be religious." I don't consider myself "religious" per say, but I abide very strongly by my "Born Again Christian" faith.
That said, I want to point out that Women of Faith is one very specific group of Christians, not all Christians. Also, in reponse to a lot of the preceeding posts, I want to bring up that I don't believe that being a Christian is sonomous to being Catholic. I think that Catholicism has a lot of rules and rituals which really don't matter at all in the long run.
I consider myself a very strong Christian, relying on my faith in Jesus with all my being. However, I do not believe it is a faith of works, a faith of good person vs bad person. I believe it is a faith of relationship: a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and the fact that He died on the cross for the sins of the world. All other issues concerning what is right and wrong, while they are important, are not the core of faith. I notice that a lot of you are saying that you have to be the best you can be and that is all. Well, I believe that on your own, you honestly can not be good enough for Heaven. In fact (and I know this sounds harsh at first but it actually is pretty cool when you think of it) my faith preaches that all are sinful in God's eyes and no one person is more worthy of Heaven than another, and because we are unworthy of heaven, we deserve a punishment. HOWEVER, we don't have to worry about working to get ourselves to Heaven or worry about suffering said punishment- Jesus (who my faith teaches was the perfect Son of God) did it for us! When Jesus died on the cross, He was taking the punishment for the sins of the entire world, from the ax murderers to the people who tell white lies. My faith says that the only thing that we have to "do" to get to heaven is to believe that we couldn't make it there of ourselves- it took Jesus' sacrifice. That's all! No amounts of money or years of perfect service to God or certain prayers. And this sacrifice is offered to the world, not just people who do certain things. I think that believing in what Jesus did on the cross as the ticket to Heaven wipes your perverbial slate clean in God's eyes. After that point when He looks at you, He sees His perfect Son Jesus.
I also think that believing this doesn't just put you on a Heaven checklish- it opens up a personal relationship with God, a thing that, from what I have read and heard, I definitely believe that Kristin has. I have this relationship, and frankly, I could not live without it. I can talk to God whenever I want, and yes, He does talk back (tho not audibly) when I listen. I have a desire to do what is right. I have a passion to love others and serve Him. Basically, I am right now living a life of thanks to my Savior. Yes, I go to church reguraly. Yes I believe the Bible is all true. Yes, I also have specific beliefs about issues regarding homosexuality and sex out of marriage that a lot of you probably would not agree on. I DEFINITELY do not condemn or think badly of people who believe differently than I. According to the Bible, Jesus very publically extended His grace to prostitutes and tax-collectors; the lowest of the low in that time. How could I be any less gracious??? However, NONE of these beliefs or practices that I engage in are what make me confident of my "spot in Heaven." It is all about what Jesus did for me.
I know that a lot of this I have to take on faith. I don't claim to have a lot of answers to specific events that happen. I can't explain why bad things happen to "good people" and good things happen to "bad people." I have to simply trust God's will as perfect. This is defintley hard and I know that most of us (myself included a lot of times) have this desire to be in control of situations. However the very fact that I serve a God who I believe IS in control, loves me enough to offer me a way to get to Heaven and who I talk to and learn from every day, is what makes me want the faith I have.
Jaime, I can't tell you why you would want to be "religious." I don't want to be "religious" and base my salvation on a bunch of rules which will not get me anywhere in the eternal life. I think to try to attain God's favor on my own strength is a lost cause. This (really long) post is to tell you why I have accepted Jesus Christ as my savior have a RELATIONSHIP and trust in God. Maybe it seems a little TOO trusting and strict with the rules, but all that is worth it for the incredible peace I feel in my life. This peace and security I have in my faith is offered to anyone; feel free to ask me more, on this journal or privately, if you want.
Whew.
